During the Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 press conference held yesterday, June 3, Toni Gonzaga was introduced to the press as one of the hosts of the said reality singing competition. She will be seen in the weekly performance and expulsion nights along with international singer Billy Crawford.
PDA Season 2: The Dream BEGins will launch the 32 hopefuls starting June 9, right after My Girl. The weeklong casting process will culminate into a grand opening night scheduled on June 14 (Saturday). It will be held live at the PDA concert hall in the ABS-CBN compound.
Aside from hosting PDA, Toni announced her big project for the year: "I'll be doing a movie by the end of the year. It's a reunion with Vhong...that is a romantic comedy. Kasi yung D'Anothers, parang nabitin ang mga audience. I'm really looking forward to it [the movie]."
The PDA host could not reveal any more details about the project since a lot of things are still being finalized.
PINOY BIG SISTER. Toni also took the chance to talk about her younger sister Catherine, who goes by the screen name Alex Gonzaga. "She's funnier than me, kumbaga mas tamer pa ako. Si Catherine talaga ang all-out. Nagkataon lang na mas nauna akong mag-showbiz, at na-discover niya na gusto rin niyang mag-showbiz."
Does she give advice to her Alex, who is four years her junior?
"Most of the time, especially kapag may criticism, lalo na negative. Most of the time nagiging impatient siya. Lagi kong sinasabi it took me seven years to be noticed. You just started and you're actually blessed dahil nagsimula ka at maganda ang kotse mo at may aircon. Ako, dumadating ako sa set na pawis na pawis because it was a very, very old car.
"Kumbaga, I paved the way for her at and kailangan lang niyang gawin ngayon ay maging patient and have determination. Patunayan lang niya na she can stay in this business."
Would she say that Alex has a stubborn streak?
"Typical teenager na may mga sariling gusto, but nakikinig naman ang kapatid ko. Once sinuway mo siya, nakikinig naman siya."
Is Toni open to the idea of having her younger sister pose for a men's magazine?
"Lagi kong sinasabi sa kanya na kailangan niyang magpataba kasi sobrang payat niya. Pero ganun talaga ang nasa genes namin, papayat kami ng papayat. Hindi siya bagay sa ganun. Kahit ako, hindi ko papayagan."
Toni even joked, "Wag muna ngayon...baka bukas!"
The TV host-actress pointed out that she is just looking after the welfare of Alex.
"As a big sister and as someone na napagdaanan na lahat, I want to protect her and as much as possible. I don't want her to go through the troubles that I went through. Kung baguhan ka kasi, lahat ite-take advantage ka."
Is Alex already allowed to have a boyfriend?
"Ayoko! Dahil ako last year lang ako nagka-boyfriend talaga. Sinabi ko sa kanya, bago ka mag-boyfriend, dapat kaya mo nang humawak ng commitment at responsible ka na. "
