There’s possibly no better actor who can play Mariel Rodriguez’s leading man in the upcoming superserye, Varga, than her real-life "special someone," Zanjoe Marudo. In the next chapter of Mars Ravelo’s Komiks Presents, Mariel will portray the superhero Varga who will fall in love with a mortal played by Zanjoe. "Masaya kasi first time naming magkakasama sa isang series, dati kasi mga isang episode lang," the Coverboy says about working with Mariel.
Zanjoe is one of the most in-demand leading men in showbiz at the moment, having been previously paired with young and beautiful actresses like KC Concepcion, Anne Curtis, and Angelica Panganiban. As a "special friend," Mariel is more proud than bothered that Zanjoe is being paired with these gorgeous ladies. "Natutuwa ako na every time na yung mga nakakatrabaho niya mga magaganda kasi what would it say about him kung yung mga nakakaparehas niya mga ‘loley’ na," she says jokingly.
When asked if he is ready to see Mariel in her sexy superhero costume, Zanjoe answers, "Excited na ko makita yung sexy costume niya. Pero kahit naman hindi siya magsuot ng mga ganun, sexy pa rin siya." For her part, Mariel says she isn’t nervous about having a kissing scene with Zanjoe in Varga. "Hindi naman namin first time mag-kissing scene, nag-kiss na kami sa LoveSpell. I don’t know [if there will be one] here in Varga, but I guess it’s okay."
