Jason Abalos works his way to the top

Former Star Circle Questor Jason Abalos can still recall how bad he felt about his performance in his acting debut. The then-newbie actor then swore to himself that he would become a better actor.

True to his word, Jason worked hard to improve his craft, with the success of the critically acclaimed indie film Endo (2007) being proof of his now-honed acting skills. He spent the years between his acting debut to his indie streak learning the ins and outs of the business and building his self-esteem. Joining an indie film for him has taught him to go beyond his own expectations.

This year, Jason faces a new challenge by taking on a daring role in the upcoming Kapamilya teleserye, Eva Fonda. “Maiinit nga yung eksena sa Eva Fonda eh. Ang laking step nito for me kasi first time ako magpapa-sexy,” the 22-year-old actor reveals. He even laughs at his own uncertainty as to whether he’s really physically fit enough to show more skin onscreen.

Having co-stars (like Joross Gamboa, Princess XXXX, and Hazel Ann Mendoza) whom he’s already good friends with helped him adjust to the bold character he has to play. “Si Cristine [Reyes, the female lead of the series] naman hindi mahirap pakisamahan kasi unang-una marami kaming common friends kaya marami kaming pwedeng pagkwentuhan. Tsaka hindi siya mabigat ka-trabaho.”

Did he feel awkward while taping their sexy scenes on the beach? “Since nagkaroon kami ng workshop prior to the taping, comfortable na kami nung ginagawa namin yung eksena. And from the very start, pareho naming alam yung pinasok namin so ready kami para dun.”

However, he feels that being a sexy actor is not a career path he wishes to pursue. “Ayoko isipin dun mapunta eh. Hangga’t maari gusto ko masubukan lahat ng pwede subukan as an actor.

As a whole, Jason simply feels blessed with his steady rise as a serious actor. He also remains humbled by Eddie Garcia’s advice to him when they worked together in the movie, I Wanna Be Happy (2006).

Aside from shooting Eva Fonda, Jason is currently filming his second Indie film entitled Rakenrol.
